DARIO

DARIO

Synopsis

Megan’s got what she thought she wanted – a hot surfer boyfriend and a chance to reinvent herself over the summer. But who’s the weird kid that keeps crashing her party? And how long can she get away with ignoring him?

About

‘Dario’ was developed through Screen Australia’s Springboard Program under the guidance of story producer Paul Welsh. He helped the team at Boomgate Films develop a short film that gave an honest and funny account of the clumsy and painful transition from childhood to adulthood from a uniquely female perspective, set against the background of a summer holiday by the beach. The script was subsequently funded by Screen Australia, with production commencing in December 2013 and the film due for completion in early 2014. ‘Dario’ supports the comedy feature ‘Starfish’ currently in development by Boomgate Films.

Director's Statement “In writing ‘Dario’, we wanted to tell a story that reflected our own fond memories of summer at the caravan park. We also wanted to present a view of teenage girls exploring sexuality that wasn’t fraught with darkness and danger as it so often is on screen. Developed and funded through Screen Australia’s ‘Springboard’ program, ‘Dario’ is the ‘little sister’ film to our comedy feature ‘Starfish’, so we wanted to make a short that would make people laugh but also felt true. The casting was crucial, and our nation-wide search for fresh talent was rewarded with a remarkable young cast who truly embraced their roles and artfully brought both the comedy and the drama to life. We've also had some extremely talented and well-established key crew come on board the project, and it’s been heartwarming to see them become nostalgic and share their own teenage stories as we’ve developed the film together. We hope our little film brings back memories for you of the cool girls, the cool guys... and the Darios.“                                            - Hannah Moon      Home
